Add your router
Do this part in Click, sitting anywhere. You do not need to be near the router yet.
Steps
- Go to Mikrotik Routers and press Add a Mikrotik router.
- Give it a name you will recognise later: the site or branch, not the model. "Front Desk", "Kariakoo Shop", "Bar". When you have eight routers, "hAP ac2" tells you nothing about which one is broken.
- Set the router admin password.
- Accept the terms and save.
About that password
Click pre-fills a strong one. Keep it unless you have a reason not to.
This is the password for the router itself (the one you would use to sign into it directly), not your Click password. Setup is the one moment in the whole process where it can be set without anyone having to remember to go and do it afterwards, which is why it is asked for here.
Two things worth knowing:
- Click keeps it, and shows it back to you on the router's page under Router details. So a router you cannot get into later is a page you open, not a factory reset.
- Use ordinary keyboard characters. No accents, no emoji. The password travels inside the setup file, and anything unusual makes that file fail on its last line for reasons that are very hard to see.
Write it down anyway. Belt and braces.
Adding a location
Optional, but do it if you run more than one site. It appears in your lists and on the Fleet Map, and it turns "which router is this" into something you can answer from your phone.
What you get
The router appears in your list as Pending activation. That means Click knows about it but the router has never reported in, which is correct, because you have not run anything on it yet.
The next screen offers the setup file. You can download it now or come back for it later.
The setup file expires after 24 hours. It is made for this one router and stops working after a day, so download it when you are actually ready to sit at the router. If yours has gone stale, press Get setup file on the router's page for a fresh one; the old one stops working immediately, which is the point.
